intelligence is an important part of any administrative system. He not only keeps an eye on the internal system of the country and its related officials, but also plays an important role in international relations. Detective means one who works in secret. He either disguises himself in various ways, collects the required information or works by hiding his actual introduction of one place. The king himself cannot keep an aye on the events that take place in every corner of the entire kingdom, so he relies on detectives. Detectives have been called the king's eye. Therefore , the king used to appoint detectives to keep an aye on his royalty and neighboring states. This undercover used to inform the king about the moral conduct of the officials in the state and possible revolts and made the international relations favorable to his master. The present article presents a historical study of the Gupta-system of the Gupta period (275-550 A.D.) which is based on ancient indian literature, articles and information received from foreign authers.
